Sandstone is very porous and one of the softest types of natural stone. Water and oil absorb into sandstone within seconds if the sandstone is not correctly sealed. Sealing your sandstone patio will keep it intact, free of salt efflorescence and looking great even after a harsh Irish winter!
About Sandstone:
Sandstone is a sedimentary rock. Most sandstone is composed of quartz and/or feldspar because these are the most common minerals in the Earth's crust. Like sand, sandstone may be any colour, but the most common colours are tan, brown, yellow, red, gray, pink, and mint green. Sealing Sandstone To maintain the look, breathe-ability and slip resistance of the sandstone, it is important to use a high quality, invisible impregnating sealer. Typical topical sealers sold in DIY stores will trap moisture in the stone which can lead the stone to become very dirty looking and damage it in time. All of our recommended Dry-Treat impregnating sealers are safe and suitable to seal sandstone surfaces of all types - from wall cladding to floors, outdoors and in, residential and high traffic commercial areas for periods of 5- 15 years so unlike with ordinary sealers you don't have to worry about reapplying every year.

Cleaning Sandstone Before Sealing 1) The sandstone surface to be sealed should be clean and looking just as you want it before it is sealed - it may be impossible to remove stains after sealing. 2) The surface must be freed waxes or other topical coatings. Any such existing coating must be removed prior to treating with sandstone sealers. 3) Ensure the material is thoroughly dry before applying any of our Dry-Treat sealers. HANAFINN Oxy-Klenza is a highly effective, heavy-duty cleaner which is safe to use on most types of porous surface. For Extremely bad staining our Heavy Duty Sandstone Cleaner should be used.
